This is what we are calling it for now. This will be a non-profit center available to all residents of Summerland, with the focus being on helping those struggling in these tough economic times. All the resources Summerland has, will be listed at this center. We are trying to get resources here that currently are only offered in Penticton. Which makes it hard for most people to get to since there is no public transportation.
Some of the programs/services we would like to see offered are:-
- drop in coffee and games area
- computers/internet, fax machine
- barter system - trade for services program, to include items as well as services
- literacy program, tutoring,
- workshops - financial planning, budgeting, meal planning, nutrition, fitness, quilting, sewing, cake decorating,and much more...
- Hosting Guest Speakers
This center would work closely with all the other service groups, churches, organizations in Summerland, to be sure that we do not duplicate services. We are looking to complement what is already offered here, as well as offer new services and programs.
There is already a variety of items that have been donated, before we even have a place to set up shop. I will try to keep updating a list of items already received, so if you know of someone in need of that item/items, please be sure to contact me and we can make arrangements for those individuals to receive the items.
